AUDI MELGES 20 SAILING SERIES -report of the second leg in Scarlino

I returned from Scarlino last night and , after some thoughts about our success, all I have to say is just a big "thanks" to our owner Benedetto Giallongo. The best "call" of the week came from him: he wanted to drive one day earlier than usual to the venue, to have two days of training before the most crowded melges 20 event ever (until the next one!!). Not just because "the more you practise,the luckier you get" , but even because our mast broke on Thursday, and we had one night and one day(Friday) to borrow another mast (thanks Luisa!) and tune it properly for our Quantum main.

So this is how the event started for us... a lot of boatwork! I was getting crazy under the sun to find the simmetry of all the stays, so I can say that th

e racing was the easiest part after all! We had 3 races on the first day with 10-14 knots and chop, scoring 2-1-1, the boat was very well

tuned, and Francesco let the boat go soo fast. The first race was pretty intense since we had to restart after being called ocs from the comittee ( NO REDRESS THIS TIME!) and we did a great recover on the left on the first beat to turn on 4th position the top mark, and to finish 2nd .

On Sunday the wind was lighter( 6-8 knots), our

speed edge was not like in medium winds, but sailed well scoring 1-4, winning the leg. I guess right now we are also leading the Audi Series, ev

en after our weak performance in Lerici last month. WOW!

Sono tornato da Scarlino questa notte e ,dopo u

n po' di riflessioni sul nostro successo, tutto quello che ho da dire è solo un grosso "grazie" al nostro armatore Benedetto Giallongo. La miglior "chiamata" della settimana è senz'altro sua: ha voluto partire per la regata un giorno prima del solito, per avere due giorni pieni di allenamento prima della più numerosa regata di melges 20 di sempre(fino alla prossima!!). Non solo perchè "più ci si allena, più si diventa fortunati", ma anche perchè giovedi il nostro albero si è rotto , ma abbiamo avuto una notte e un giorno per trovarne uno in prestito(grazie Luisa!!) e metterlo bene a punto per la nostra randa Quantum.

Così è iniziato il weekend per noi...un sacco di lavoro!!Stavo dando di matto sotto al sole cercando la simmetria tra alte, diamante e basse, perciò posso dire che la regata in se è stata la parte più facile dell'evento!

Abbiamo disputato 3 prove il primo giorno con 10-14 nodi di vento e onda corta, realizzando un secondo e due primi posti. La barca era messa a punto veramente bene e Francesco la portava veramente veloce. La prima prova è stata particolarmente intensa perchè siamo stati chiamati ocs via radio, quindi siamo rientrati ed abbiamo dovuto recuperare dall'ultimo posto(NIENTE RIPARAZIONE QUI!!). Grande bolina sulla sinistra, giriamo quarti incredibilmente la prima boa per poi concludere secondi.

Ieri c'era meno vento(6-8 nodi) e la nostra velocità non era così super come con vento medio, ma abbiamo navigato bene facendo un primo e un quarto. Abbiamo così vinto la tappa e credo che siamo anche in testa alla classifica totale audi, nonostante la nostra prova opaca a Lerici il mese scorso. WOW!!
