Fantasticando

The Gold Cup offered a great show in Malcesine last week: nice conditions, big level, super race comittee, perfect organization ashore.

Value Team finished in second position, which is obviously a great result, but I can say we were there to win. The winner was truly the best team on the water. My compliments go to Farneti's team.

I think I had already been boring during Clean's interviews, so I'm not going to make any report of the regatta.

Instead I want to tell what my sick mind imagines at times.

One night, in Malcesine, when I couldn't sleep, perhaps the night when I run to check the boat at 5 o'clock during a 40 knots north wind shot, I have been dreaming about this:

a melges 20 with no hiking lines,vang,cunningham and jib traveller remanded to the skipper position, sailing with 20 knots at full power and speed with two men on the wire and Niccolò(Bianchi) at the helm.........a melges 2o planing with the gennaker and the bow up, with the crew with their feet in the straps near the stern.......a melges 20 with a traditional rig, with a back stay which makes you confident downwind and let you control the power more easily upwind...

But after reasoning a bit about that, I guess it's fair that the owners keep on having fun as they do it now on the melges 20, which is a simple and sexy looking boat. It's not a surprise that every regatta has more entries than previous one!

La gold cup di Malcesine ha offerto un bellissimo spettacolo: belle condizioni, velisti di gran livello, comitato di regata super, organizzazione a terra ottima.

Noi di Value Team abbiamo chiuso al secondo posto che ovviamente è un risultato di prestigio, ma, diciamocelo, eravamo andati la per vincere. Invece, come è giusto che sia, hanno vinto i migliori. Al team di Farneti vanno i miei più sinceri complimenti.

Penso di essere già stato abbastanza noioso nelle interviste di Mr Clean, quindi mi guardo bene dal fare un report della regata.

Invece mi va di raccontare quello che a volte la mia mente malata immagina.

Sul Garda,in una notte abbastanza insonne, forse quella in cui mi sono fiondato alle 5 a controllare l'ormeggio della barca durante una botta di vento da nord, mi sono sognato questa cosa:

un melges 20 senza draglie , con vang,cunningham e carrello del fiocco rinviati a poppa che naviga di bolina con venti nodi in piena potenza e velocità con due uomini al trapezio e il Nicco che lo timona ... un melges 20 che poi sotto gennaker plana a prua alta con i due prodieri al trapezio con i piedi sulle straps posizionate quasi a poppa...un melges 20 con un armo tradizionale ,senza diamante , ma con un bel paterazzo che infonde fiducia in poppa e consente una facile gestione della potenza di bolina....

Riflettendoci su bene, tuttavia, è giusto che gli armatori continuino a divertirsi come fanno adesso sul melges 20, che è una barca facile, divertente e dal look decisamente sexy. Non c'è da stupirsi del fatto che ad ogni regata il numero dei concorrenti aumenti!
