hyeres day 4

Today the wind was lighter, 7 to 10 knots. The speed was much better than yesterday.  We started well in the middle-left, but after some minutes we had to tack because a british was pointing too high for us. We were lucky to find a lane to tack back and head left again. We were lucky again to able to sail free until the end of the leg, turning the top mark 3rd. On the run there was a right persistent shift and we lost an irish boat which had gone to corner and lead the race then. We went to right mark at the gate and passed JoeFly, and then we controlled th fleet until the end of the race to finish 3rd.

The second start was bad because the boat under us started 10 seconds earlier, so they killed theirselves and  us. We crossed behind half fleet and went to the right, with the left side always favoured with the easterly wind. We turned the mark 20th-25th, and gained more than ten boats on the first downwind, making an early gybe which took us to the layline while the others were overstanding with a right shift.

On the second beat we gained some space , controlled Bolzan and Bressani. On the last run we passed the ucranian boat to finish 7th.

Much much better today!!

day 2 and 3

Yesterday the wind was a bit lighter than the day before. We sailed 3 races.

We started late in the first one and  had to cross behind 60 boats with the usual  left side favourite. We recovered well downwind, but we ripped our gennaker. On the  second beat Cesare did a great job changing it very quickly and we lost just few lenghts for that. We sailed the last run with our PZR(power zone reacher), but we still gained two positions, until the 11th place.

On the second  race we started well in the middle, but after a couple of minutes our speed was a bit poor so we  got stucked near Joe Fly , and had to tack away too early. Sometimes it's better to have a leebow on the start than a minute later. In fact it was very difficoult to get free after that situation. We finished 11th.

On the last race we started again in the middle, our speed was ok and we turned 8th. During the two runs we gained a lot and finished 4th. Ashore we found out we were ocs. 

Today was a very bad day. Just before the first start the wind dropped, we were in the middle and started very late, then new pressures were coming from the sides and we were stuck with no wind in the back of the fleet. We recovered until something around 40th.

The last start was brilliant, but we were not fast enough to keep going to the left side, and begun to "rebound" between other boats. 21st.

Now the championship is gone for us(4-8-10-11-ocs-38-21). On the next two days we will try to find out what's wrong with the set up of the mast.

 

Basta Liguria Please!

La liguria quest'anno sembra avermi portato  male. Sb3 a Finale e melges 24 ad Alassio(vedi www.noseteam.com). 

Mi sembra di aver capito che quando uno va male di suo poi c'ha anche la sfiga a tortutarlo per bene(vedi canne nel bulbo e gente mure a sx che ti buca la barca e non ti fa girare la boa di bolina).

Per Punta Ala vediamo di resettarci!

Weekend sul Garda

Last weekend the Nose Sailing Team had some practice on the Garda Lake.

On Saturday we  sailed  with the gennaker up from Campione to Riva del Garda, where we found strong wind, and beating all the way back. It was very helpful to have training partners as Fantastika(Nicola Celon) and Eta Beta(Luca Bursic). On Sunday the fog and the lack of wind let us ashore to do some important boatwork.

Questo weekend noi del Nose Sailing Team abbiamo fatto un po' allenamento sul lago di Garda.

Sabato da Campione abbiamo navigato di poppa fino a sotto il ponale(Riva del Garda) , dove abbiamo trovato vento forte, per poi bolinare al ritorno. Preziosa la presenza di due equipaggi come Fantastica(Celon) e Eta Beta(Bursic) come sparring partners. Domenica nebbia e assenza di vento, quindi abbiamo colto l'occasione per fare dei lavori importanti sulla barca.

E' da oggi on-line il nuovo sito del Nose Sailing Team. Un sito che non intende esprimersi come una vetrina statica, di pura descrizione del team. Ma bensì dinamica, aggiornata, semplice e veloce. Gli strumenti offerti dal cosiddetto Web 2.0 sono talmente tanti da permettere a chiunque disponga di un computer (o un cellulare) connesso a Internet di interagire e partecipare con le attività del prossimo. In questo caso il Nose Sailing Team. Innanzitutto è disponibile la pagina su Facebook, nella quale è possibile caricare delle foto, aprire delle discussioni, inviare notizie tramite l'inserimento di link: in altre parole funziona come un forum. Poi c'è la pagina You Tube, all'interno della quale saranno caricati i video girati direttamente dall'equipaggio. Ove la connessione lo permetterà, già alla sera saranno disponibili i resoconti giornalieri delle regate e degli allenamenti. Il servizio Twitter permette ai membri del team di inviare brevi messaggi di testo dal proprio cellulare. Messaggi che potrete visualizzare nella pagina Live! del sito web. Ma tanto altro ancora. Dopo tutto questo, non vi sentite già a bordo di Saetta?

Last Saturday we had a meeting in Salò to prepare and fix the boat, plan the fixtures schedule, and, most important, to go skiing the day after in Campiglio...

Lo scorso weekend c'è stata una riunione a Salò per sistemare la barca, pianificare il calendario e, soprattutto, andare a sciare a Campiglio.

ALLENAMENTO A TORBOLE

In vista della tappa della Volvo Cup di Torbole del prossimo fine settimana, in questi due giorni il Nose Sailing Team ha ripreso confidenza con il melges 24 "Saetta", dopo circa due mesi di stop. Purtroppo sarà l'ultima regata con Niccolò Bianchi al timone. Io proverò a sostituirlo, ma sarà dura! !E' proprio un peccato vedere lasciare uno che potrebbe dare del filo da torcere a molti quotati timonieri professionisti....

Nell'allenamento di Torbole abbiamo provato il campo con altri equipaggi, che, come noi, vogliono ben figurare tra qualche giorno. Bursic, Fracassoli,e l'ex campione del mondo di classe  Nico Celon tra i più quotati. 

Noi, dopo aver settato la barca per tipiche condizioni ventose dell'alto Garda e aver capito di essere veloci, ci siamo concentrati sulle manovre, che hanno evidenziato della "ruggine" a causa della lontanza dalla barca per così tanto tempo.
