Great sailing conditions in Hyeres today:sun, warm water, 14-16 knots from 95°, and a nice wave to surf downwind.86 boats on the starting line.Two races were sailed, the course a double windward-leeward.
The shifts were small and it was a sort of drag race after the start to the favourite left side of the course.
On the first race we started very well a bit windward of midline and rounded 5th. Downwind the timing for gybing back to port was crucial and we passed Blue Moon and Alina at the gate.On the second beat I did a not perfect positioning near the port lay line and lost Alina. We finished 4th.
On the second race the wind was a bit lighter. We fucked up the start because our jib somehow didn't unroll at 20 sec to go. I did a good job finding pretty soon some good free air lanes in phase with the windshifts. We rounded almost 15th and again made a good move gybing in pressure earlier than the others, rounding 8th. On the second beat we passed Bursic, but lost Celon who was really quick and finished 8th.
We are 5th overall now, very happy not to have a discard yet in such a big and competitive fleet.
Hopefully somebody tomorrow will stop Uka Uka, two bullets for them today...
